       @itsfoss Simple audio on Linux is indeed quite a bit better than it once was. However, compared to complex audio-handling on a Macintosh (let alone the top-notch apps available for the Mac, it still hasn't left the jungle. This is its Achilles heel.

       @itsfoss Been using Linux & Firefox since iCab. For search privacy, been using DuckDuckGo for years ... privacy-oriented, no ads, excellent results. Also there's even an -optional- search-assistant (GPT-4o mini) for those weird questions.

       @EUCommission Here in the US, everyone has the right to withhold their information, although in a very few cases they might need a lawyer. Many people  chose  to use the phrase  'I have nothing to hide' that have since learned better ... sometimes at great expense.

You’re happy when your computer tells you “no”  ...today ... after the Thunar file mamager refused to let me rename a file with a  forward slash in it (for reasons).OTOH, writing a bash alias with 3 letters in it to save having to manually type-in a long complex folder-path every day *almost* made up for it.

       @itsfoss Tried multiple distros in a couple years, Always  went back to XFCE, not for the speed, but the ease and flexibility. When Mint's version came along, it stuck, and my DHing was done. I like settling on an environment that I don't -have- to fiddle around with ... just get things done in the least clumsy way.

       @dangillmor It may not be known to many that Motorola began its business as Galvin Manufacturing, selling car-radio transceivers to police departments in 1930. They've got a lot of experience building hand-held radios, so these are likely to be durable.

       @gutenberg_org Reminds me of Henrietta Swan Leavitt, a Harvard astronomer and 'human computer' ... who, in the early 1900s, discovered how to measure vast astronomical distances. Not many years afterwards, those distances forced the recognition that we live in 'an island universe' (the Milky Way). Edwin Hubble often declared that she deserved the Nobel Prize for her work.
