@ariadne There's a beloved book in Sweden from the 1950s about an orphan that runs away with a hobo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rasmus_and_the_Vagabond). It was part of our school reading in the 1970s.And yes, that would go over like a lead balloon these days.

@ariadne I have slides that keep me on track. And new material I test on a couple of colleagues beforehand - you only know if it makes sense and flows well once you hear yourself.But I always extemporize the actual words. With recurring lectures I sometimes hear myself saying something unexpected and good, and end up incorporating it into the slide deck. Or I find myself skipping things and remove it afterwards.

@ariadne Well, selling stuff is important - to Google, if not to you.I've long since mostly stopped using Gmail for actual mail. It's a convenient address for company contact, but personal things mostly go through other channels nowadays. A couple of old relatives keep in contact through email still; other than that it's a dumping ground for receipts, delivery notices and stuff like that.

@ariadne So they were potentially one mid-production hardware revision away from making it unplayable on genuine consoles. On a platform without a way to distribute a patch. Doesn't strike me as a great business decision, even if they got away with it this time.

@ariadne @whitequark Also, code and art (and innovations) are sufficiently different that perhaps they should be covered by different systems. We have copyright, patents and trademarks already because one system wouldn't work for all intellectual restrictions. Possibly code-like things should be separated out from the arts, giving us a fourth one.

@ariadne The random/in order buttons should perhaps be grouped together. I spent way too long thinking the volume slider is a control for the amount of randomness. Which would be cool, but not what you intended.

@ariadne But now I want a randomness slider in my music players!The slider could determine how far from the original position a song is allowed to move. At 100% they can be moved wherever.And above 100% it starts splitting songs into pieces and remixes into new ones. Taking bpm and key into account would be a bit of a challenge.
