As a #vegan I believe it would make sense to make food at #fosdem entirely plant-based. Maybe next year?(Hoping the fries were vegan, in Belgium fries often aren't even vegetarian, and only vegans seem to know this)On the plus side, statistics on vegan burgers were not bad though. WDYT?

I really don't get the whole idea of the cookie popups on websites.I mean, everyone always chooses for: essential cookies only? I do, anyway.Some sites even say: "Don't you want a functional site?", to which I always silently reply: "Knowing that everyone disables all optional cookies anyway, don't you want (to build) to have a functional site?"I don't care all that much if your site is broken, it's your site, your choice.#cookies

@fiore What I mean to say, this has nothing to do with agreeing, or with nowadays, it's about policy. If you write GNU code, you use the GNU coding standards, and if you're unsure, you run indent.

@itsfoss So, is what you're saying that the average "Linux" user somehow(!?) still hasn't caught up to the GNU in GNU/Linux? Or doesn't distinguish between downloading opaque binaries (flatpak anyone?) and programs built from source by your distribution or by yourself. How could that have happened? /SGNU meaning: we only run free software, and all free software can be compiled to run on GNU/Linux.#freesoftware #linux #gnu

@synq Some thirty years ago, Debian was the most amazing thing you could imagine.Since Eelco Dolstra's thesis some twenty years ago, we know better (or so I should hope!).I know that Mastodon isn't available in GNU Guix just yet, as it is not (yet) bootstrappable. That is to say, the only way to build Mastodon is by using binary blobs during the build.If anyone is interested in making Mastondon available in GNU Guix and thus making it truly bootstrappable, please do reach out to me.I am convinced that we'll reach this point eventually, whenever we find a pulling force to make this happen it might speed up things.@guix

@cwebber I am vegan and am worrying about how the dairy industry and the meat industry are tightly entangled and that because of that vegetarianism doesn't contribute to a reduction of animal suffering in a meaningful way (acknowledging that going vegetarian is an amazing step towards veganism, thank you vegetarians, and please keep walking the path!), and I'm worrying about the datacenter impact on climate change.

Had a most lovely---almost 2h---video chat session with @ekaitz_zarraga and Timothy Sample (GNU Mes contributor and author of Germ) on the workings of Ekaitz' rewrite of Mes from a Scheme interpreter to a compiler.AIUI, Guile Scheme has some interesting characteristics that prevent the Mes compiler from using some simple and low hanging fruit performance improvements. @stux Yeah, I also did this wrong all my life!This is the main reason I decided not to join anymore a few years ago, mainly because of the genocide by the Israëli government that the Dutch government has been supporting. It felt like hypocrisy.Turns out, hardly any Dutch casualties, so we can just keep on remembering the genocide from 80y ago, saying Never Again while the present day genocide continues! Great! /S
