yeah we definitely don't need the names peek/poke for anything else, because those operations (arbitrary memory access) are @ and ! in Evocation, and more generally most Forths call them either that or fetch/store.also in the event we ever have users, it would only be confusing to people our exact age who had those childhood experiences, and most trans people our age are dead

C avoids having a peek() operation by instead having ungetc()but that's terrible. we've always disliked that, it exposes too much implementation detail.

this is how broken our brain is from too many years of tracking hatewhen we see the word "heritage" our first thought is oh, it's going to be some form of nationalism or colonialismof course it's a very general word and there are plenty of times that's not the case... it's just our first reaction

bringing an empty bottle and filling it there doesn't meet our needs in the same way, the stadium's water tastes really bad and there's this paradox where the closer you are to sunstroke, the more nausea makes it difficult to drink anything.plus, filling it requires navigating the crowd to and from the fountain and standing upright while doing it, and those are hard for when we're already dehydrated and dealing with muscle fatigue.

buying stuff there also doesn't help because the correct amount of water for us to drink during a 90-minute game and 15-minute intermission is something like 2 liters and the cups are tiny

it's some sort of fun joke how tools/scripts/syscall.tbl lists all the syscall numbers for every modern platform, conveniently in one place as a single source of truth that's easy to remember and find and clears up all the confusion of having it specified in a zillion placesand x86 isn't one of those platforms
