       @unaegeli No, of course not SMS. All other apps though (Mastodon client, messaging apps). Normally, on phones with no Google services, these have to do what Android calls "running in foreground", which means they maintain a TCP connection to their own server at all times (and have to display a permanent notification in order not to be killed by the operating system). However, when Google services are available (like on @murena ), they don't do that.1/2

       @unaegeli @murena Instead, they have their server send the push notifications to google, and the operating system gets them from there, and wakes the app when there's one from their backend service. Google claims this saves battery since you only have one TCP connection open for all apps, but it also conveniently places them in the middle of all your communications and puts an extra burden on all developers who want to support Google-free android phones.2/2

       Ich: Setze DNS TTL immer auf 10 Minuten, weil ich immer erwarte, dass ich eh irgendwas falsch mach und den Fuckup schnell beheben können will.Irgendein Admin bei heise.de, der da seit vor der Dotcom-Bubble arbeitet: Weiß, dass er unfehlbar ist und setzt DNS TTL auf nen Tag oder so, für den Fall, dass die DeNIC das komplette Land hops nimmt.#denic #dns #heise
