you know the job of replacing a toilet seat has gone off the rails when you're breaking out the machinist's cutting fluid

what in the fuck?sixty eight minutes ago I ordered a replacement USB-C headphone adapter on Amazon. regular prime next-day shipping.it was just posted through my door.(and before you say it, yes, I am 100% sure it's the regular prime next day service, same day was not even an option, and we do not even have "prime now" or whatever it's called as a service here.)

oh lawd the app for my label printer got updated and I think this one might actually be worse than the Plex app update.I needed a compact one so having an app was inevitable, but I bought this model because the app was super simple.the new app version broke print intents, so I can't just open label files in it directly any more, and now making a label requires going through a three page wizard, loading an image, manually sizing it to the label, and printing. and it has upsell popups now too.

ahhh, been a while since I found a cryptographic signing bug where JSON canonicalisation was relevant. these are always fun.

hmm. CVE-2026-41089 looks like a super basic stack buffer overflow in LSASS, straight out of a remote packet. I know Microsoft runs CodeQL over their code, and I can't envision a world where LSASS doesn't have coverage, so that raises questions about how it wasn't identified. my best guess is a process gap somewhere, but it would be cool to see a post incident report with info.(and before one of you mentions the slopcoding thought-terminating cliché, maybe think about it for a minute first)

OH: "why don't we just bulldozer the remains of Chernobyl reactor 4 into the Kola boreholes?" "ah, yes, squashing uncontrolled fissile material down a 20cm hole, where the ambient temperature is 180°C and the only thing stopping 12km of rock crashing down on top of it is a 1960s Soviet geoengineering project left unmaintained for three decades, what could possibly go wrong?"

@ariadne as long as it doesn't have sev0 blockers like the apple app store does. i've never been able to use it on my work macbook because it asks me to verify my details, asks for an address, then rejects the address because it's missing a field that isn't even on the form. it's been over a year and it's still broken.

@mntmn @neauoire it gives me similar vibes to the old Amiga manuals. appropriate, too, given they came with schematics and stuff.

@ariadne it's goofy, but weren't they kinda stuck with backslash on that one due to name resolution constraints? istr they originally wanted to use :: but realised they couldn't because it broke static function resolution.

@ariadne what's that Hayao Miyazaki quote... "I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself."
