Conclusion: If the mods will live up to what I’m reading, this game will get 5/5. Ok I’m biased that i love the X-Com style games (both generations) and this one really fits the 2nd gen but the BattleTech universe is very satisfying. These guys did great with vanilla and I’m betting mods breath immense life into this. Just get past the uninteresting story (oh and the “they” pronoun, wtf, I’ll mod that out) and the game itself is really fun. Sunk hundreds of hours into it.#greyknightgames

@fkq1q2r2 i know its a table top game too so likely that's where the support is, trying to makeit more like the tabletop. from what i read, it seems super intense and got my attention. worst case, it breathes new life into this game. on its own, its fun. got 700 days into my career run and just started feeling a little repetitive. the newer version and mods would definitley mitigate the repetition

MechWarrior 5: MercenariesOverview (1/4) I’ve only played MW2 way back in the day and having prefaced this one with BattleTech, I got quite the nice background walking into this one. Its a FPS (though you can choose an over shoulder view but that’s not nearly as fun) where you pilot a Battle Mech and shoot at other mechs, tanks, helicopters, buidings, to blow shit up. The really interesting part with this game compared to other FPS is instead of selecting the gun you want...#greyknightgames

Overview (2/4) to shoot now, you load up your Mech before going to battle and assign weapon groups for each weapon, so preparation is a requirement, like heat management (guns generate heat so you need to “sink” it), ammo reserves, armor, special gear, which all weighs something so you can’t just throw 1000 tons of gear on your little Locust. Also, you can outfit a whole lance (4 mechs) so your 3 AI lancemates can absorb some fire for you, and they do...#greyknightgames

Overview (3/4) smack pesky tanks and turrets quite nicely. The economy on this game is FAR better than in BattleTech and its got great intensity. Plus the growth curve is really nice. Its a dangerous slog at the beginning but gets cooler and sleeker as you get richer and gain more gear, though enemies get tougher to, typically better shots and bigger Mechs. Its a sandbox with campaign missions so you can play forever if you like which would get somewhat repetitive but...#greyknightgames

Overview (4/4) you can customize loadouts and mess around the various maps for different missions and collect some neat Mechs. This game is absolutely great! I picked it up with the first 5 of 9 DLC (most recent just came out a few days ago) so I will be waiting for all DLC to launch before i scoop this up. Also, seems there’s a big mod community so i think this one has great replayability. Its added to my “Amazing” list and I’ll be buying it once future add-ons cease#greyknightgames

Story: Its kinda neat. You’re father, a merc comapny commander, gets killed and you take over, starting from basically the ground up. You beat some campaign missions and try to hunt down your father’s killer and learn some neat stuff along the way. I wouldn’t play it for the story and especially not the DLC stories but definitely for the mission rewards. Plus, like BattleTech, the campaign is a quasi-tutorial too.#greyknightgames

Graphics: Great! I little more than my machine could handle though. Had the screen just go black on me a couple times. Learned that i should tweak graphic detail down (which Medium vs High didn’t affect the look and feel, still was great) and the problem disappeared. Obviously a better machine would handle better. Really cool feature: sometimes when you “core” an enemy, they go critical and the Mech goes BOOM with a cool mushroom cloud. Yeah i stop and watch the fireworks.#greyknightgames

Music: Reminds me of MW2, cool beats that keep the pace feeling great. Sounds themselves are fantastic. You firing, getting fired at, explosions, incoming drop ships, they all really enhance the feel of being on the 4th millennium battlefield. Also, its kinda fun when your lancemates chat with you about kills “great shot commander, its even going crit”. Even funnier when I outfitted the infamous ARC-AGC and hearing the enemy chatter “how is that thing doing so much damage?!”#greyknightgames

Conclusion: 5/5. I’m going to buy it with all DLC and mod the crap outta this. It’s officially up there with X-Com and other games I’m going to play again and again. I’ll have to try MW5: Clans, which is less sandbox and more rip thru campaign, but this one made the short list. I feel its one you spin up, have a blast, put down for a bit and spin back up again. Highly recommend.#greyknightgames

@Jagahati ahh heard of Eve but never tried. not a big online player myself but i'll have to keep this one in mind.you me both... along with countless others. X-Com UFO Defense is still my top fav but the firaxis formula is great. i see many using it, seems to derive from tabletop games. BattleTech is really neat as its less about cover (well kinda) and more about components. head shots, right arm, left leg, they all mean something. really great concept and spin to the formula

@sj_zero hmm, didn't check GOG but i'll do the same, keep on standby til it shows up. MW2 is my only other experience and thanks for letting me know the others aren't great. no idea if MW5 compares well but i found it fun. played with the controller fine, just had to be clever with weapon groups, especially with lancemates. i'll poke around with MW3 and 4 as i don't want to set the wrong impression for 5 but i found it great. ftr MW5 is set before clan invasions so no MW2 mechs
