@jollyorc @cstross @mjg59 I would have, of course been obliged to answer 'yes'.For me good code can be poetry in its expressiveness. Yes there's only so many ways to tell a compiler to modify a register but there are also only so many words for a sheep. Its how they are put together that matters

@jollyorc @cstross @mjg59 another way I think about this though is what am I trying to do. My shopping lists are not poetry, and some of the code I write to solve a problem is no more epic prose than many more functional bits of writing, nor is my photo of a business card for the number art. IMHO intent and purpose matter

It means one thing to a lot of software folks "it works" and another to corporate types and many other bits of a business "we'll care if it doesn't work"If you say you support Linux and it breaks on someone's obscure setup then to most eyes you are at fault. If you say it supports steamdeck and it happens to work on their box then great everyone is happy.,

@davidrevoy I was expecting the naming conventions to be an 'actually we all use the same code and can't admit it' problem, but this is an interesting one. I can see the argument for renaming the core packages but then sometimes 'so everyone has to use our stuff' is also why brands contribute to get API influence

Heads up to anyone using #zen internet. They are again (as in 2024) trying to sneakily remove 8 IP address blocks from people who have them on existing lifetime guarantee contracts.Sending out emails saying one thing and if you check carefully assigning a single address to people with 8 despite the email otherwise saying the reverse.(Yes I know I could move ISP but thanks to their old lifetime no price increase guarantee I have a fantastic deal I'm sure they'd love to get rid of ;))

@briankrebs @campuscodi real question is where the data actually goes. If it's just within the box beeping at you to wake you up before you kill someone then rather less of a deal.Most of this is not on micro mobility because as I understand it a quad bike is conveniently exempt, and allowed around town in many EU and UK just not on motorways. Also they tend to be built to a price point where there's no spying kit not even an entertainment system just a phone holder

I was trying to put together a summary of why #AI code s banned from FuzixHaving thought about it a bit I realised it can be put several ways but it really already been said by Marx (and Engels), and to be fair also the same basic beliefs in many other groups:"The workers should own the means of production"LLM #AI, aside from all the stolen content and environmental damage is not owned by the workers. It's no different to depending upon an proprietary compiler someone can take away.

@ariarhythmic you do not own the means of production because you have some binary on your computer whether it's an LLM or a compiler. It's just an opaque unmaintainable blob. A local LLM would need to be something you could train and build yourself
