@plutarch @johntimaeus @bammerlaan idk what any of that means, but I'm sorry you're experiencing it. Definitely speak to your medical professionals about your desire to play an instrument; possibly an occupational therapist or physiotherapist if you're not already seeing one.Consider guitar. Much more forgiving than cello.

@bammerlaan @plutarch imho the whole body is involved in cello - bowing is a big movement, plus you're reaching over the fingerboard for 4th position - I would strongly recommend hiring before buying if you have pain issues. Even just moving the case to get it out for practice could be a concern. A cello in a case is heavy.

@steggy @plutarch try some out, if you can. I have a beautiful cello but sometimes wish I had a smaller model, as it's not comfortable at times. I know someone who got a 7/8 size and it fits their hand and body so much better. An inexpensive instrument is good while you're learning to handle it. The rental I started on was pretty beaten up.
