       @stux Thus, why I am not on Facebook (left it years ago) and refused to start an Instagram account. I know I'm still getting spied on by other means, but I can at least limit the damage from Zuckerberg's crew.

       @keepandroidopen @gnome It's an absolute shame that this is what the internet has come to—closed. Everything. Even in open source, but in the for-profit world it's always a concern that anything open in a place that answers to stockholders will inevitably want to enclose it to control its product.

       @itsfoss We need a viable open source smartphone. I mean, a real one, not some of the garbage phones that have been produced in the last several years. I know there are other projects, and ones that turned out to be scams, but until we can buy something like a genuine open source alternative to the Pixel we are going to continue to be in this data-mining deathloop.

       @itsfoss I’ve tried both and prefer Kitty, but I concede it is subjective. Maybe I just like the name Kitty. Still, I think the overall look of Kitty is better.

       @thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast I dislike the term sideloading. It’s just downloading software. These companies keep coming up with terms to try to make it look like we’re doing something unnatural so they can control what’s supposed to be our devices.

       @itsfoss Nothing interesting about a project disingenuously conspiring with state governments to set us up to eventually fork over a government ID as a precondition of logging into my computer, which will then be followed by a ban on VPNs & eventually live monitoring of us w/o our consent.  This is beyond unacceptable. If I have to go offline or use alt of alt operating systems just to use a computer without my government making a mockery of my Fourth Amendment rights, so be it.

       @thelinuxEXP Digital sovereignty is pretty useless if we’re all treated like caged animals by our governments. My disgust at almost every Western government over this issue (including my own) is endless. I’m now going to have to start considering going offline to reclaim my basic right to privacy.

       @dangillmor As a refugee from the bird, you cannot stay on that platform & have any illusions about what you’re subjecting yourself to. It is a company that is owned & operated by a tech bro who holds us in contempt. And he’s platforming & ad-subsidizing fascists while suppressing any remaining progressive. At this point, decent people need to leave & stop supporting his platform.
