Never keep a frustration about an app to yourself. Tell the dev, open an issue, or ping them.Open source apps only exist thanks to your contributions. As a dev, I personally appreciate your feedback even when you're upset about a bug or unexpected behavior, knowing I'll do my best to fix it. And chances are you're not the only one affected, so speaking up helps everyone.Never forget you're part of what makes it work.

A few weeks ago I opened a fundraiser to replace my old Mac. My latest builds confirmed how unworkable it has become: I spent my time freeing disk space and waiting for builds to finish one after the other. #HolosDiscover 1.7.2 is available. With over 9 million indexed posts, search now detects whether a term is rare or common and picks the most efficient strategy accordingly. Trending and stats now use a prebuilt cache for faster responses. Account search no longer returns false positives. Hashtag counts now respect filters. But the API has been fully available for all devs since the beginning. After a full week of work on #HolosSocial, I will deploy the new relay code tomorrow to support multi-device, and compile the apps.Next week I will be back to #Fedilab.Switching too much between projects doesn't help, but spending more than a week on a single project is not a good move either.Fedilab and Holos are two big projects that deserve a balanced approach. Thank you for your patience.

Building #HolosSocial is by far my most ambitious project. It might only attract a niche of users, though at first it could seem strange to run an #ActivityPub server on a device.But Holos' purpose is more than that: helping everyone have their own identity, host their media, and not depend on a server admin. Make everything accessible with views depending on your mood. One app, one identity, with all that the fediverse can offer.That's the beginning, the way is still long but not unreachable.

With #HolosSocial you don't need to host a relay to get a custom identity on the #Fediverse. You just need a domain pointing to a relay through a CNAME.You can even point a subdomain to the relay and keep your identity on your root domain. That's how @tom79 works: holos.fedilab.app points to holos.social, and a WebFinger file on fedilab.app maps the handle.The identity is on my domain, the key on my device, so moving relay just means repointing it.

I would like to thank you all for helping me buy the new computer. I received it two days ago and moved everything over quickly to start using it right away.Building apps is night and day. Where one build used to take forever and crash, it is now fast and stable. I can even run builds in parallel, which saves a lot of time.The fund stays open for the monthly payments, but the biggest part is already behind me thanks to you 🙏

The next #Fedilab release will be able to detect a mismatch between the written text and the selected language of the message. This uses the #LibreTranslate server, so it has no extra weight on the final APK size and doesn't use any Google stuff. It will be turned off by default.Thanks to @RachelThornSub for the suggestion.
