       イーロン・マスクの地獄から避難してきた皆さん、お疲れ様です！たぶん分からないことだらけだと思うので、マストドンやフェディバースについていくつかの特徴を説明したいと思う。まず「誰をフォローすればいいの！？」という疑問があるのでは？マストドンにはアルゴリズムがないので、「あなたにおすすめ」みたいな機能もない。マストドンにはいくつかの「ビュー」（タイムライン）がある。デフォは「ホーム」です。ホームには、あなたがフォローしている人の投稿、あるいはその人たちがブーストした別の人の投稿しか見れないので、フォローしているアカウントが少ない間はこれはとても寂しいタイムラインです。次は「ローカル」のタイムライン。ここにはあなたと同じサーバ（インスタンス）に入っている人たちの投稿が流れてきます。mastodon.socialやmstdn.jpなど大きなサーバなら、そりゃータイムラインはカオスですし、次々と新しい投稿が流れてくる。そこから自分と合いそうなアカウントを探し出すのは至難の業。でもサーバが数千人以下であれば、タイムラインがほどよく落ち着いてきて、面白いアカウントが見つけやすくなる。1/?

       My daughter just asked me how to say 厨二病 (中二病) in English. Looking through various translations, the one that strikes me as least awful is "teen angst," but it fails to capture the narcissism, pretentiousness, and sense of superiority of chūnibyō. "Main Character Syndrome" captures that aspect, but fails to identify the specific age bracket where this most commonly occurs, which is to say early teens.        Substack is proud of hosting serial rapist Andrew Tate. Why is anyone who's not a Nazi still on there? Why? I can sort of understand the "I can't give up X/FB/IG because that's where all my people are" argument, but Substack literally just hosts blogs/newsletters. You can go anywhere. You can switch to Ghost.

       Okay. Humbly asking for some #Linux help here. When I installed Ubuntu on my machine a year ago, I did not know beans about Linux. Since then I've learned a bit, and when installing on other machines I have tried to make a partition so that I can change distros without losing files. But I don't remember doing anything like that on my main machine, where ALL my files are. Is there some way I can check to see if my drive is partitioned, and if not how can I change distros without losing data?

       Does anyone else find the font replacement feature in #LibreOffice doesn't work? When I open a Keynote file in LibreImpress, the font on the first slide is fixed, but not on subsequent slides. My slides are 90% Japanese, and the default Japanese font in LibreOffice is a weird one. LibreOffice also seems unable to distinguish between Japanese and Chinese.

       In Japan, to this day, "kindergarten" for Deaf Japanese children is a form of torture for both child and parent. They are forced to spend hours learning to vocalize and "read lips."An elderly Deaf Japanese woman once gave a presentation to our Japanese Sign Language club about growing up in the era of sign language suppression and eugenics. (Until the mid-1990s, Japanese Deaf people were sterilized without their knowledge or consent.) 2/3

       She had us try to read her lips while she mouthed common Japanese words. There are countless words that sound different yet look the same to someone trying to read lips. This is probably even more true in Japanese, since hearing Japanese people simply don't move their lips much when they talk. (Japanese doesn't have many sounds that require distinctive shaping of the mouth.) 3/3

       It is hard to grasp the global influence of Bell in the early 20th century. Go anywhere in the world, find a Deaf person, ask what they think of Alexander Graham Bell, and watch the reaction. Age is irrelevant. Deaf people around the world will never forget what Bell did to their grandparents, their parents, themselves. The image gap between hearing and Deaf people of Bell around the world is a gaping chasm.
