Every time an AI article, particularly about Anthropic, talks about safeguards, I'm reminded of how we now know their safeguards are just a bunch of additional prompts prepended to the user's prompt begging Claude to not be an asshole.So when they talk about adding stronger safeguards they likely mean adding an "I really mean it for really real don't exploit any vulnerabilities you find without asking first" to that.

@aceattveg They're kinda designed for that, so I wouldn't feel bad about it. Arcade games are kind of just about learning the dance, seeing the little gotchas they put in there to make you think "you won't trick me out of my quarter like that next time!" So getting good at them is kind of just a matter of throwing yourself at it until it makes sense to you.

I was talking to someone a while back who was, by all metrics of business, a successful entrepreneur, and I was telling them (because they ASKED) that I was hoping to get trace root to demo status and then hopefully secure enough funding to hire a couple of people to help finish it, with the end game of running a small studio as a co-op.their immediate reaction was, literally, "the people you hire will inevitably disappoint you- just do a bunch of adderal and make it with AI" and like,I haven't had a conversation with someone who was more openly diametrically opposed to everything I care about.

The conversation stayed (I think?) pretty civil but I basically had to end it on "there is no way we will ever see eye to eye about this, and you can accept that or not but it's an immutable truth".

More or less immediately after we cleared the current FFXIV savage tier, I woke up one morning with my my FFXI account number from back in middle school shining brightly in my brain from the depths of memory.It's a randomly assigned number so I had more or less assumed it was lost to the ages, but I punched it in with my old password and it logged right in, walked me through linking my old FFXI account to my Square-Enix account, and then showed me my old character is still there after all these years. after like over a literal decade of server merges, she ended up on Odin.I played XI at launch back in middle school, and I ended up having to quit before ever getting to the (then) max level of 75 because I just couldn't continue to play and still keep up with school.So for the sake of closure, I reactivated my account and spent the last couple of weeks grinding MNK and then DNC to 99.Now I can finally finish all the storylines and get the game out of my heart for good.

@Miaourt I don't D: My gameplan so far is to call a shop on Tuesday in town that might have the ability to run tests I can't / let me put a cheap graphics card in it to run some stress tests on / let me put a different PSU on it to run the same tests, etc. If they can't, I'm going to try and get the cheapest card I can find to test

@Miaourt That's an optionnnnn but I think if I get one cheap I'll either keep it for future testing or give it to someone who can use it within my circle!The GPU isn't new! it's a 3070ti that was expensed for me by a client back in 2021-ish. When I was having this problem before, I field stripped the entire machine and found a literal bug (like a little gnat corpse or something) between two pads on the motherboard next to the pcie slot, and then the problem went away for a while. It seems like the problem comes back anytime I go a week or two without using the machine. The PSU is an 80+ platinum corsair sfx 750, same age as the card. This problem has been so weirdly inconsistent and therefore difficult to diagnose, but I'm 99.9% sure it's not a heat related issue at this point.

@Miaourt I've been trying all weekend with OCCT- the 3D adaptive variable test was the only one it would regularly fail while doing, though it did fail at a steady 100% while I was tweaking the voltage settings in the nvidia app- though there's no direct "run test and it fails predictably" moment. It just fails after a while.So far after setting GPU voltage limit to 80%, it ran half an hour of the sustained 100% GPU load test and I'm 20 minutes in to a 25-100% alternating test and it hasn't crashed yet.Been doing my best to keep an eye on the relevant metrics but haven't spotted any weird patterns.

@Miaourt Well ok, undervolting didn't fix it at all, it shutdown after 20 minutes of variable load stress testing and then again while totally idle and undervolted.I guess I... start by replacing the power supply?
