I'm pretty sure the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids themselves, but even then, maybe they were intended as spaceships, because the Egyptians had contact with furry aliens (that they thought to be gods from the sky) and tried to copy their technology.Your thoughts?

Apparently trans women are banned from women's chess competitions. I wonder whether the other chess competitions are gender-unrestricted or explicitly men-only.This matters as the difference between "trans people are forced into mixed pro chess" (bad) and "trans women are completely banned from pro chess" (even worse).Also I wonder how trans men are affected. Are they "generously" allowed to compete with the women or are they too banned entirely?

I hate when people smoke cigarettes at bus stops, tram stops and train stations. I'm an anarchist, but if we already have a government, they should ban smoking at public transport stops and stations, including those that are outdoors.

Luna "Messenger Kitty" Dragofelis is an outlier and should not have been counted.(6 is just the number of distinct, messenger oriented protocols I use: Signal, WhatsApp (for communication with normies only), Discord, XMPP, Matrix and DeltaChat. Not even counting social media apps with a DM functionality like Fedi or Bluesky. For some of the protocols I have multiple separate apps, because the app, specifically Element for Matrix, only supports one account per device.)

I do boost image posts without alt text, but I always add descriptive alt text to any images I post. I hope that's good enough. I don't feel like cleaning up behind other people's messes, it's already tiring enough to add CWs to posts missing them.

@mir they just taste weird Germany is considering to introduce a sugar tax, that will inevitably lead to manufacturers, instead of just cutting out the sugar and making the product less sweet, putting in artificial sweeteners, so now it'll still be sickeningly sweet, now with inescapable off chemical flavor.

@ariadne My employer is pro-AI (but not obnoxiously so) and pays for Github Copilot for their developers, allowing us to use it with our personal accounts too.Pretty much the only feature I use is autocomplete, and I don't use it to figure out what code to write, only to save myself the physical effort of typing out the code I was going to write anyway, if the LLM happened to guess something close enough to what I had in mind. Rarely I let it do simple but repetitive refactorings that when done manually, would require lots of separate copy/paste steps, and again I already have a specific end result in mind and reject the LLM's result if it doesn't match (small discrepancies are fixed by hand).I don't consider this to qualify as vibe coding.I don't ask it questions, I prefer to read the actual documentation, because that's more reliable (assuming the documentation has been written by a sentient creature). Thankfully, Java and Kotlin have a great structured documentation system (Javadoc/KDoc) with IDE integration showing the docs when mouseovering a name, and allowing to navigate to the library and JDK sources with a single middle click.I wouldn't have an issue with my employer cancelling the subscription when Copilot raises prices to a point where my employer doesn't want to pay for it anymore. I'm not depending on the LLM, I prefer keeping my skills sharp.Also for my personal project, #Kittyscript (my own all-purpose programming language under sporadic development), I stopped using Copilot entirely, and back when I used it I didn't vibe code either.

Elaborating on my personhood definition: a person is anything that's sapient, i.e. capable of thinking and feeling. Which applies to humans, transspecies creatures in human bodies, and probably at least mammals and birds. It would also apply to an AI that has achieved actual consciousness (which the currently existing LLMs are far away from, though) and intelligent extraterrestrial lifeforms.For example, I'm pretty sure house cats can think - they just don't speak human language and don't seem to be interested in proving their sapience to humans otherwise.
