       Hey!Do you make stuff? Are you doing threads about your work in progress (WIP)?Any stuff. Software's my jam, but I follow people who make lace, cabinets, music, drawings, food, articles & books, videos, photos, paintings, boats and planes model and real, people who make anything, to be honest, anything but hate.I like it when you share the WIP, and I am not the only one who does.In fact, following along folks as they work is often one of the most pleasing parts of my day.Show us!

       @Gargron In English, the angel and demon of Russian literature is Constance Garnett, who translated much of Tolstoy, Pushkin, and Dostoevsky.Angel, cuz she was one of the earliest sources of English translation.Demon, cuz she manages to make Tolstoy, Pushkin, and Dostoevsky sound like the same writer.Nabokov's Pushkin translation is an exercise in erudition. Half of every page is his translated quatrain. The other half, sometimes even more, is his footnotes about his choices & alternates.

       The one straightforward and extremely well-documented fact about kid's safety on the internet:The *overwhelming* majority of child sexual predators, in the high 90s percent-wise, are right in your community. They're not on the Internet. They're at your church, your school, your kid's clubs, your sports activities, and -- sadly -- your family gatherings.Whatever else age verification is, it's not got anything to do with protecting children.

       When a senior developer tells me they use an LLM because it's just as good as working with a junior developer, they're telling me everything I need to know. About themselves, I mean, not about LLMs or junior developers.

       @dangillmor They always bring up the Teapot Dome. Grant died in poverty. The wise ones bring up LBJ, who was a pretty dirty player, famously in politics, less famously in money/finance. Children often mention Nixon, cuz of Watergate, tho, as politicians go, he was surprisingly clean.There is *nothing*, and I mean *nothing*, in American history to compare with this brazen "presidency as profit center" administration.
