       @benroyce Therein lies the explanation of why people who don't like cats, often attract cats. The human body language (recoiling, narrowing of eyes, etc.) signalling we don't like something, is misunderstood by the feline to mean almost the opposite. 😆

       @stux This is why "AI" evangelists have a tough time on the fedi: people, left to their own devices to talk among themselves (as opposed to being spoonfed every positive comment by a manipulative algorithm), will collectively reach the conclusion that the cost-benefit analysis for this tech simply doesn't add up.Unlike chatbots, the EFF are important and necessary, and a threat to the tech broligarchy. Of course they can't gain traction on a platform that dampens their reach. 🤷🏻‍♂️

When Sam Altman said he wanted intelligence to be a commodity that people rent off him, he didn't mean "intelligence" in the sense that police and security services mean it. He meant our ability to think.He and these other Silicon Valley freaks envision a future in which everyone is utterly dependent on their agents to accomplish any task that makes cognitive demands on us.        @quixoticgeek Back when I was still on FB, someone wrote a long, technical essay on why paving slabs that double as solar panels are a bad idea. Such negativity about an exciting technology annoyed me at the time, but has been proved correct. 🤷🏻‍♂️Put simply, they generate less power at an exponentially higher cost than conventional solar systems, not least because no known material is both durable and cheap enough for them to be practical. Paving slabs endure 👉🏼 massive👈🏼 amounts of wear and tear!

Which is joyously queer!I think most of us are sophisticated enough to put fiction in historical context and appreciate what was trailblazing about at the time.Also, it's a deliberately subversive comedy horror, for crissakes, not social commentary - and all the queer characters in it are from another planet. 🙄

       @Gargron @sjvn Yep. Took me a moment to spot the glitches this time, but I was raised with dogs. They're not this calm in such situations, ever. It's not that this is an implausible scenario, it's that it would have played out a lot differently irl.For a start the dog wouldn't have just sat there for so long while it's surrogate "puppy" was being chased. 🤷🏻‍♂️
