also its been like 25 years now and Supporting Me is still probably the single best boss song a video game has ever had and the entire Sonic series since then has chased that high. Yeah sure they got close a couple times with Live and Learn and With Me, but they never topped it.I have no fitting images in my folder to tie to this post

With Me IS a pretty fucking good song though and probably the coolest the retarded blue ragweed has ever been. All of Sonic and the Black Knight was actually a really good take on the whole king arthur story. Making him actually give a shit about his time on the planet and the importance of enjoying who and what you love while you can was a story I wasn't really expecting Sonic of all assholes to go into.The game wasn't even that bad really people just pretended to hate it because hating sonic was cool because secret rINGS SUCKED FUCKING COCK. Honestly, if I had to put sonic stories in a list of best to worst, Black Knight would probably be #1. Shadow himself is just a superior character with superior motivations in almost every single way, he's just struggled to get a story that fits him properly because the writers for Sonic blew their entire loads on Black Knight and became incompetent after that.

For a long time though they were just sort of chasing Live and Learn and still kind of are just in the most dogshit manner you could fucking imagine. Which is really weird because With Me is sort of just better in every single imaginable way? In both versions too. You just never see anyone bring it up because it's remembered poorly.Now that I think about it too it feels like they were actually trying something different for the first and last time with "Modern Sonic" in the whole storybook thing similar in a way they were trying for the Adventure games. Then Sonic Colors came out and fucked shit up beyond repair. At least there was a reason and pull to him that made an argument for him being cool in the games between heroes and black knight but in colors he was just there for retards and rather than realizing they just made terrible games they thought people hated cool sonic and wanted him to be a dipshit.dont fucking puzzle piece react me i know i'm right

I played pokemon blue rescue team before replaying sky because I wanted to see how the game developed and if it wasn't just nostalgia goggles, and while I will say blue rescue team went fucking bonkers and was completely poorly balanced and PISSED ME THE FUCK OFF I still think the game's story was at least serviceable, better than most games releasing now at least which isn't a very high bar. There wasn't much complexity, the partner never really operated on their own and you were kinda just the focal point of everything. Very much just an isekai sort of? The ending I'd say was the best part of the game and still good, and it was fun to see how it'd develop into explorers of sky. I also think this game imprinted onto my tiny little brain the things I liked and how I liked certain things to develop in stories. This is also why I keep getting japed into mediocre isekais that never scratch that itch fully.

blue rescue team suffered from legendary spam, shit being overleveled way too much, a very questionable padding dungeon that just existed to take time, and if you picked the wrong started pokemon (any grass type) you just kind died instantly, and after you beat the game your partner pokemon, who is the most important part of the entire thing, just becomes another default npc pokemon more or less. Which is really fucking funny after the emotional ending it tried and admittedly successfully did. I liked it for what it was at least and what it turned into. It was really fun for an experimental type thing but it wouldn't really function well beyond the pokemon paintjob it had.I have never played super mystery dungeon and never will either :akko_nope:

in terms of a game, explorers of sky fixed most of the problems though it was still a mystery dungeon game. The biggest factor was random item/room generation just completely fucks you sometimes and your moves and thrown iTEMS FUCKING MISS FOR NO REASON. But beyond that the dungeons were more well paced. You have more time to play the game beyond story and the bosses weren't absolutely fucking insane save for two instances. I would very much suggest anyone even remotely interested to play it and would say it's worth the time, especially if you're a fan of pair-bonding stories. The story itself hard carries the entire already good game even if it is a little simple starting off for the first like 60% of a 24 hour game.
