@gabriel a lot of divide was probably manufactured but i think its real effect was accelerating the divide. I don't think people wouldn't have ended divided if things evolved organically.

@CapitalB @gabriel one life choice i like is that i kept on with reading feeds (sadly ttrss is utter shit now, i need to cook up my own thing for this) and moving at least SOME people onto self hosted messengers - the other ones complained about having to install another messenger, they'd never complain when someone said install signal/whatsapp/telegram/threema/whatever centralized bullshit..

The trouble is to a) find new bloggers with it and b) that those who did keep using RSS/bloggingNot by chance, those bloggers of decades are also never those who are partisans in the culture war. @gabriel you are probably correct with this.yet i have NO clue how i should forget (and forgive) people falling for all the things, starting in 2020 (maybe even 2015), and now DOUBLING DOWN.i'm now in this annoying position where i have to assume everything mainstream opinion to be manufactured for ulterior reasons.this of course creates more division, i'm the "other side". then, how can i go along with something i either deem morally bankrupt or utterly stupid?

@gabriel adding that i know that i well might be the retard and wrong. why not. i don't think so, so far i have been mostly correct. can happen though.difference is i didn't want to send people to gulags. that has been the real divide, with covid and other things, imo.unfortunately one side over-extended their play and most people who just wanted to be left alone are now not so tolerant anymore. changes you if you are treated as subhuman for the crime of different opinions.

@gabriel Psyop or not, it did get people to obsess over politics to a very unhealthy degree (myself included) and did destroy a lot of Internet communities, so I will always look at the thing negatively. I was only suckered into it because the hobbies I were into were suckered into it and everyone had the mentality of "everyone is the enemy unless proven otherwise, so you might as well pick a side".I wished it never happened. My life would be so much better if it didn't (though I argue that COVID was 1000x worse than the culture war).I'll leave the possibility that it DID happen organically, but only in niche blogs/forums and maybe politicians and CEOs discovered that they could take advantage of it by bringing it to the mainstream.But either way, I feel like that it has gotten to the point that even if you did get rid of the top of the pyramid, people would still be fighting over these issues and I don't know the best way to address it, at least a way that pleases most people.

The main difference is you had a brief period where the internet was decentralized and a lot more interesting ideas floated around outside the control of the zogbox, but now everyone has coalesced to the same few websites where it's far easier to control the framing.
