       @EdBoatConnoisseur That it is 2026 and there is still not a stable, well-featured, and documented Android emulator or compatibility layer that is also not trying scam you, beg for money, and "accidentally" unleash malware on your PC ought to shame the tech world and all those open source fags who proudly boast of the collaborative spirit.

It was genuinely that. It was simple, unobtrusive, worked well with a decent amount of stuff. If more time was spent on the ARM conversion layer it genuinely could’ve been something great. But Microsoft, for some reason, decided to partner specifically with the Amazon app store for the thing and barely advertised it. The thing got axed with barely any of the population knowing about it, and Microsoft barely made a cent because nobody wanted to use the Amazon app store if they were to use any app store on the thing. I still have a WSAbuilds install running on my system, if for no other reason than it is the best desktop Tachiyomi/Mihon experience I’ve had.

       @SuperSnekFriend @EdBoatConnoisseur Seriously pisses me off that they ditched it by the way, there's a few minor instabilities in the actual software that cause Tachiyomi/Mihon to occasionally crash. And a lot of other apps have stopped working over time, with newer apps tending not to work to begin with. Being able to just have this as a window and not needing some whole virtual machine shell or anything restricting it from the system (nor five trillion ads auto-installing) is great.

       @bronze @EdBoatConnoisseur You've been able to install houdini/ndk on waydroid for ages already, bluestacks was obsolete long ago.Of course, both of those are ABSOLUTELY PROPRIETARY as well, and lepton is likely no different, but at least if you can grab the source code and prove it can compile, you're in a better position.

       @SuperSnekFriend@tsundere.love okay i did more reading, lepton is a valve fork of waydroid, in a similar vein to how proton is a fork of wine, waydroid development is one of the developments of all time... but steam is betting on it rather than using money to get a deal with genymotion to use their emulator in steam so maybe they hired developers that are confident on making lepton work where waydroid found hurdles, being a waydroid fork it needs to run on wayland or at least a wayland kiosk (weston, cage), the android game needs to have an x86 build OR arm translation layers need to be added as compatibility tools to lepton (libndk and libhoudini) in similar manner to how some libraries are added to per game proton prefixes, if the game is NOT in steam it will require manual installation of the apk through ADB...in other words at least right now it is not possible to just click on settings and click add a non steam game to play android games with steam, but maybe in some years.
