       It's been 9 months and I still don't have a new job.  I had a few interviews, but no offers.Obviously, I'm doing things wrong.I found a career coach who will work with me until I get something, including interview practice and using his connections with previous clients.But, I don't have any money to pay him.        @tj I'm in the same blasted place. No company is hiring unless you are the absolute perfect candidate. I don't know how many times I've had to fill out that I don't need a visa or sponsor. Meanwhile, in programming, there's 30 different "languages" for JavaScript and I'm supposed to have 7+ years experience in 5 of them to even be considered. Even though they compile into JavaScript. Nevermind, I've been programming longer than most of these companies have been in business.Good luck out there.

       @souldessin Yeah, a lot of tech manager spots are like that - the manager should do the job better than any of the dedicated techs, plus have a complete set of management skills.That makes no sense.  The manager should have a good understanding of the job the techs do, so he doesn't overcommit his team or get taken in by BS.  But he shouldn't be able to replace them himself.Just promote a tech if that's all you want.

       @tjYou could be doing everything right and still get nothing. It took me a full year to get a job again after being laid off at the start of 2024. Local groups/meetups are your friend, that's how you make connections with people already inside companies you might want to get into. The OWASP chapter near me was my gateway into local groups, and it was someone at one of those groups that got me past the HR filters to get my current job.

       @tjAlso worth noting, I was like you with only a handful of interviews and no offers, then at the end of November I suddenly started getting interviewed to the point where I had them every day for a two week span except xmas and its eve. Ended up getting two competing offers to choose between, which was a first. The end of the year is when companies tend to get new budgets for hiring
