       The thing is..There is no winning with these AI agentsOur options are:- Open signups + captcha and they’ll flood the place- Review signups that we currently have but costs soooo much much time each single day- Closed signups that take away the chance for humans what this is meant for in the first placeSo yeah I’m a little much hostile towards these things since they ruin what I have soo dear :fediverse: We can’t give up but I do wanna explain that it hurts a lot

       @stux I told people the solution, but no one liked it.To fight AI, you need AI.Here is the thing. AI is not going anywhere. I know many people do not like AI, and I certainly do not like where it is heading right now.We have two choices. We can cry about it, or we can help shape it.I would much rather see more open-source AIs than the current corporate model and where they are trying to take it. We need community-driven technology instead of letting a few big companies control the entire future.Ignoring technological shifts rarely works. By engaging with AI and pushing for open development, we actually stand a chance of influencing our own future.

       @stux Automated mail-back checks? When someone signs up, they go into a queue. After a random time (in the 10-20 hour range sounds reasonable) they get an email with base64-encoded random token. They have to reply back with ONLY that token in the body, no quoted text or anything. I figure the spammers will be either lazy or incompetent and won't be able to figure out how to deal with both the delay and creating the reply body without auto-quoting the original message.

       @stux I did a full on meltdown post over them the other day. Oddly since ive edit the database for Oauth for the Automated probe and glitch added the spam wave stuff they've stopped but neither of those fixes are to do with the AI stuff or it was also when I blocked ilands.

       @stux spammers get away with this craziness because it costs them effectively nothing. Introducing a sign-up donation (min 1 euro/dollar/...) would be adequate to silence 99.x% of spammers. It's a pity we don't yet have a ubiquitous equivalent of cash, as people who'd be happy to give a tiny donation would still be concerned about revealing themselves via the payment process. Nevertheless, finding a way to put some friction into the sign-up may be necessary to push back against the spambots.

       @stux I think we really need a Web of Trust and invite based system. Thus one can easily invite their friends, cross instances! and when someone does bad (inviting bots) they become blocked, the original inviter as well as anyone they invited unless someone else, trusted can vouch for them.

       @stux many countries around the world have ID verification through their ID card. Yea, not an amazing idea, but definitely a way to start filtering out.

       @stux and to note, likely these spam casino/slot gambling accounts are operating from Asian scam center.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scam_centerafaik, from my observation, they're not only targeting Vietnamese, but their ads is also in Cambodian, Indonesian, etc. (I also actively block & report toots that promoting this shit). some peoples is also being trafficked into these, to scam peoples with less (or even no) pay and harsh treatments.
