       In the future after my Mac is dead I think I'm gonna go with a "developer laptop" from https://frame.work or something like thatThe costs are about the same as a Mac but this seems more durable for a long timeAnyone any experience with this?EDIT:Conclusion; don't buy dis sjit

       @stux another option for this is @mntmn . I love my MNT Pocket Reform more than any other laptop I've owned. However, you have to really want to learn how hardware works to keep it running.

       @stux hmmmmmh. Frameworks are kinda cool, but I also have quite a lot of friends who had have issues with them. from broken firmwares, to mangled GPU drivers, things breaking far more often then they should be.Then also there's the "frame.work" is on the fash list argument. https://git.sr.ht/~rabbits/fashwarehttps://awful.systems/post/5897965

       @stux my view on all this is that a laptop is best as an almost dumb-terminal to your more reliable and easier to maintain bigger system at home.  Unless you need to do stuff like video editing on the road you can afford to get a simple low cost laptop

       @stux I use both a 16-inch model for development and a 13-inch model when traveling. Both work great with FreeBSD and Debian. Still, I think I’ll go for a ThinkPad again next time; they are also easy to maintain yourself.

       @stux I like framework and what they are doing. It is rare to see a company that makes easily upgradeable computers with official Linux support that gives back to the people making free software.

       @stux The DHH footgunnery has already been covered - I haven't spent a dime with them since it happened.I bought this motherboard before the tariffs fucked everything - right speaker amp went out in the second week, gave up on getting them to RMA it after four or five rounds of 'but did you really reinstall all the drivers? Have you tried installing windows?'.1/3
