       as a teenager i was fascinated by sects and cults, as i had some encounters with jehova's witnesses, scientology etc. this turned out to be quite useful life experience when having to deal with ai boosters

       @mntmn for me it was probably readining "Influence" by Cialdini. I also had a pretty creepy experience related to that when, on a trip to Thailand, I saw the exact cult mechanics as laid out in one chapter play out in front of me, as if those people had taken it as an instruction manual

       @mntmn hah yes, as a teen I read Stranger in a Strange Land and was also online when a bunch of scientology's secret texts were leaked online, and also had a phase of being fascinated by this stuff!Also found out my dad's philosophy books had inspired a big occult movement, and that I was conceived at the end of a nine-month summoning ritual (where my parents met) but that's a whole another thing 🤣

       @mntmn I remember walking past a Scientology storefront each day on my way to high school in the late 1960s. They always had someone out front inviting people in to take their test.So one day I did. They hooked me up to their e-meter, I took their test. And passed it with flying colors, as someone "completely clear".Of course, they then wanted to sign me up for their sessions to become "super-clear".Just reinforces my opinion that Scientology was fraud from the very beginning!
