       @bria could it be the system in place is directly taken from the french AOP and as a consequence all french AOP are making it in the list of already protected cheese? I am just assuming, feel free to correct meAnd yes it looks biaised af oops should have refrained from joking

       @kaneelI'm not an expert, but it seems that AOP and PDO are the same thing.However you must be talking about AOC (appellation d'origine controlée) which largely predate the aop, or even the EU (since 1935). However, such label does exist  in other country, possibly younger (italian DOP was created in 1963 for example)The number of aop in france and italia is, imho, more linked to the cheese diversity in these country (500-1500 in France (yes the difference in estimation is wide^^), more than 2000 in italy) and production capacity (with germany, there are the top producer of cheese in EU).
