Today i ended up with more chickens then I could handle :hk_smh: Tractor supply neglects tf out of their chicks, I saw several silkies with really bad pasty butt (2-3 days worth of build up!!) and I demanded to take them home. The feeders were all empty, there were a couple dead chicks, and it was just badI took home what I could. Now idk what im going to do with all these chicks once they get bigger but better with me then to leave them suffering to dieThey got real pissy with me for pointing out their screw ups Somebody has to do it :blob_shrug:

I haven't heard them outright say it but just reading between the lines, I think they just go in the back of the store and kill birds that don't get bought before the next shipment comes in. They put very little effort into taking care of the chicks once they arrive at the store. I've had very worried-looking store workers really push me to take birds at almost zero cost right before the next shipment arrived because they seemed to not want to do something that they were going to have to do.

This was the first time I've seen the horrors firsthand but id urge you to buy chicks locallyThey are much healthier and the breeding quality is way betterAlot of times TS mixes up their bins too and you may end up with all roosters :02_laugh: 😐

Exactly. They claimed "too busy" but when I walked in there were 2 employees sitting on their ass so thats a load of crap. Ive already posted about it in a local group and people are telling practically the same storyI always thought ppl were exaggerating when they talked about it bc my local TS has been great, up until today Broke me heart

That's horrible, kikies! I never went inside TSC, always curbside.Every chick I ever hatched grew up healthy. Never once seen sprayed legs or poopy butt from any of them.That's what happens with pet stores too. They prioritize profit over welfare and the animals always suffer.

Yep I hate to see itThe ones I got were super uncoordinated after I gave them a good cleaning. They could barely stand when I first saw them.But they have pepped up a good bit and im thinking they might make itThey wouldn't have had I left themIve gotten a few splay legs from hatching in the incubator but that's to be expected. I always put a brace on them and after 3 or so days they are like brand new!

Alice, the ferret I had before Aron and Sean was at a Petco and she had swimmers. It took several months before she was able to use her back legs and even then it was never perfect. She managed to live 8 years before she became immobile and had to be euthanized. She was my favorite fert.

I wonder if you can report them to some type of animal welfare agency. They should not be allowed to sell animals. I know it's difficult because places like petco and PetSmart do the same things with small animals and reptiles.

Sean is still hanging in there. He looks fat but it's cancer and enlarged organs. I been adding pure taurine to his food and it's helped him maintain his muscles and heart, but there is no telling when his time will come. He's lived longer than the vet expected already.He'll be my last ferret for sure. Not only is the vet care for them is so much more expensive than a dog or cat, but their dietary requirements are so much work too. Aron and Sean started on this 1lbs of ground chicken and turkey mix from an online seller (Raw Paw) but I found out much later that they source their meat from multiple small farms and don't regulate quality control. I've caught them several times in the past only having breast meat in what is supposed to be complete (meat, bone, organ). Since then I have been adding vitamins to it. i wish I could swap to another supplier, but their foot imprint is so strong they won't even eat the same meat from somewhere else. That's one thing I'll be happy to never have to deal with again.Turtles are different, you have to really try to kill a turtle prematurely, some have managed to survive decades of neglect.

It has a lot to do with specialty as well as supply. A doctor has to know one type of anatomy, vets have to know hundreds. Statistically doctors are a dime a dozen now, even if they're brown. There's probably, what, one maybe two vets per town/city?

That was how much it was taking a ferret for a regular checkup with nothing else done to a specialist. The small clinic that has seen my ferrets and turtles only charge $24 for a normal visit. They are packed every day they are open and good luck getting a phone call through to order more medication. I've had to pay over $1500 three times over the course of the years when I had to rush a ferret to a specialist ER, each time it was just an x-ray or ultrasound followed by an euthanasia.

Yeh I've taken my dog to the er and they only did an x-ray. Gave me 3 days worth of meds and already told me what I told them when I walked inGot charged a grand 🫠They do it because they know we love our pets and are desperate to see them not in pain
