       @desea what is human potential in this context. Humans tend to work better when they can communicate with each other and the whole multiple languages setup is gonna make it harder.

       @desea is the entire point of this just "english is cringe" (i agree) and it lacks nuance which you can go around by using multiple languagesit's just not a good solution and neither is a synthetic language that is good because good luck making everyone use that

       @desea @snowy I'm of the opinion that you can study another culture and develop an appreciation of it without becoming fluent in the language.Having a widely adopted lingua franca is essential and people in general aren't going to care beyond that and their native language. Everything else is based on their own interest or required by their own investments.Most high school and college curriculums over here teach you Spanish because it's the second most popular language. Some people are bilingual as a result, others just know enough to get by.

       @desea @snowy I mean it'd be a fucking stretch to say I'm conversational at Japanese but I know more nuances of how they use their language than prolly 95% of Americans and sometimes default to using their words cuz they just sound cooler.I'm just saying I don't wanna be made to learn French and German when I'm never gonna use it outside the classroom. If I suddenly develop an interest in Quebecois literature or room with someone in Berlin, now we're parlons and gesprach.I totally appreciate the idea that learning foreign words helps expand the kind of thoughts you have. It's why poets love the concept of saudade. I just don't think I need to become trilingual about it. I'm fluent in one language, would've liked to have grown up with two. If Europeans can learn two then so can I. I can be passing in a couple others.
