main open issues:- case must be heavier (and with rubber feet) so it doesn't slide around on the table, probably made of metal- acoustics need to be dampened somehow (foam inside?)- best position for cable outlet?- which existing palm rests could we recommend?

@mntmn I've enjoyed the way my Keychron Q9+ keyboard's rubber gasket assembly works. It'd be tricky but I wonder if it could still be applied to a low profile keyswitch mount without too much added thickness?

@cararemixed yeah i need to learn+understand more about the numerous plates/foams/gaskets that are used in the mech keyboards scene nowadays. @holo_memory recently got a fancy transparent mx/box keyboard where i was like, this feels+sounds nice

@mntmn @holo_memory I'll try and pack the keyboard I mentioned next time I drop by. I don't use it as much now as I find it hard to constantly adjust between different travel depths (maybe I just suck at typing) but I really enjoy it when I want a full-travel mech keyboard.

@mntmn I know it would require a redesign of the keyboard as well, but having it snap with magnets (also providing connection) to the keyboard in various positions (front, sides, whatdoiknow) would be cool, similar to how the Intech MIDI controllers do: https://intech.studio/

@mntmnIn my opinion, the one I have is 200-300 g heavier than I would like to.The rubber feet are sold in the next Chinese shop. Different sizes and shapes, choose any.

@mntmn have you considered silent switches re:acoustics?of course there's a plethora of foam options as well, depending on what kind of typing sound you're going for

@tomjennings right, i mean the idea is that you could put it anywhere you want (at any offset/angle), the case has to be a bunch more compact too. for it to be offset to the left or right you'd need one longer and one shorter palm rest, right?

@apfel yep, we actually have some of those, but it's more the movement of the ball that gets amplified by the acoustic body of the case

@mntmn Or maybe ditch the Keyboard and do a MNT Microwriter Trackball combo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwriter Also you had a reason to port uxn to MNT Products. It would be a great addition to the secret upcoming MNT Pip-girl (compare it to the pip-boy but enhanced in every way). :3

@mntmn maybe something like this for the cables. with a small slot for the usb cable? It would also be nice to have screw holes similar to the ones in keyboard so it is easy to mount different palm rests.

@mntmn acoustics are probably the first place you should start after your case design is finalized imoif you can, id experiment with your midplate being done in polypropylene! that generally leads to a deeper 'thockier' sound (read: quieter).in terms of foam, yes its a good idea, and to my knowledge really anything works. my current keyboard kit (neo98) offers 3 layers of pre-cut foam, but theyre thin; if you want sound dampening definitely thicken any layers youd potentially be shipping.
