#Android is a cornerstone of #FreeSoftware on phones, but only community distributions, sometimes called #CustomROM, put you in control. Which distribution suits your use case? Which one respects your freedom and supports your daily life? As part of #FreeYourAndroid, we took a closer look at several of them and today we release our report about @LineageOS https://fsfe.org/news/2026/news-20260904-01.html#LineageOS #FYA

@fsfe @LineageOS >However, this did not work for microG as a user app. Selecting the location provider was possible, but did nothing. This is due to the fact that without system-level privileges, microG cannot register itself as a location provider.I actually fixed that in 23.2 two weeks ago btw.https://review.lineageos.org/c/LineageOS/android_frameworks_base/+/497886/9

@fsfe Android custom ROMs are free software by the grace of Google. How do we make sure they're not limited (any further) or even stopped completely by Google once they get too big a market share (for Google's liking)? Because if we don't or can't we're basically in the hands of Google anyway!@LineageOS
