I tried making my own deep dish pizza earlier this week. Of course it took longer than take out, made a huge mess, and cost more than takeout. Also, it tasted kind of bad.A thin or hand tossed pizza can get away with a mediocre crust, but the crust is a big part of the pan pizza taste. Mine tasted blah and had the consistency of a day old Bojangles biscuit.Undecided if I'll try again or go with what works.

@tj and this is the fundamentals of free market. Who can make something best and cheapest gets the gain.

@tj I did the same but used Publix pre made dough. The crust came out pretty good.

@tj I used a copycat recipe for pizzahut pan pizza. I chickened out on using 9T of oil in the cast iron skillet. It was still good with less oil.

@Shannon14850 I used one that claimed to be an old-school Pizza Hut copy. Some of the comments said it was just like, and some of the comments said the dough didn't rise.My dough didn't rise as much as expected, so maybe that's why it was dense. I know the yeast is good - it's the same jar I use in my bread machine.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ljHZDe6Udk

@tj Don't feel too bad. I've tried and failed too.
