       Some of the discussion around VTubers has always been puzzling to me... I might be in the minority, but I've always seen a chuuba stream as nothing more than an amusing puppet show. They caper for my amusement, and I might throw nickels at them in appreciation. But the idea of a parasocial relationship or an emotional investment in a hand puppet is a little odd to me.Like, sure there's a person with their hand up inside the puppet, but I neither know or care who that is, or what their personal life is like. All that shit is off stage, and should stay there where I can't see it because I don't give a shit.

       @japananon Yes but maybe if you throw enough money at the screen then YOU will be able to shove your hand in the puppet.Or something. I'm too old to understand or appreciate vtubing, it's after my time.

       @nnature I guess I've always seen it as "you gave me enough amusement that I feel it's worth X dollars to me, so here you go". Makes more sense to me for an intangible benefit like "amusement" or "entertainment" to be paid for on a voluntary basis

       @Jens_Rasmussen I can understand that to a degree, but I would have thought most of that would be filtered and at least partially anonymized through the kayfabe, and taken by the audience as part of the character/"story" per se.It's just stuff like "my favorite chuuba accidentally leaked that they have a boyfriend, I'm so angry now" that doesn't make sense to me. A piece of the set dressing fell down and I saw the back wall of the theater for a second, kinda shitty but you just let the stage hands put it back up and carry on like nothing happened, because it's all just a fucking puppet show, you know?
