       Why aren't the Great Lakes seas (or a sea?)? Is it because they're freshwater? Is it because they connect to the ocean only via a river and not directly? They're bigger than the Sea of Marmara when added together, but that one connects the Black and Mediterranean Seas via straights (not rivers) and I assume is salt water? IDK. Geography nerds: Is there an actual answer to this question or is it like asking a linguist what a "word" is (we don't know)?
