@Gargron Can we simply follow the collection to see them all? I'd like to do that rather than check each account individually and follow them one by one. Instead, I could see their posts enter my timeline and decide whether to follow them at that time.

@blogdiva @gunchleoc A collection is just a collection of profiles you can curate and share with others. There is no feed like there is with a list. Lists are also private.

@Gargron Is there a way to see a sample of the feed of the artists (or anyone) in a given collection? i.e. not just a list of the accounts but view of their feeds? I trust your list but also want to see each artist's feed to see if I would enjoy following them (something I do with most people before I follow) - for stuff like if they boost a lot vs have original posts or if their content if NSFW (I don't mind that - just want it tagged so it doesn't show up on my feed when browsing in public)

@Gargron @gunchleoc right, so they still appear on my timeline and don’t get moved out into the list’s dedicated stream.so TL;DR:1. a collection is just that, like an album of accounts you curate2. a list is an actual technical feature for changing how your timeline works. you create a list to separate those accounts into their own timeline stream. you have to unlist them if you want to see them in your default timeline stream. feel free to use this to update the docs

@Gargron I don't like the Mastodon collections as the remind me of the Google+ circles and their rampant resharing. Those made the feed much less varied. I would love collections for my posts, though - like the channels of Google+, where you could have people subscribe to those of your channels that interested them. I.e. only see my cat pix and memes and not my programming or political posts.
