A video that affirms my beliefs! :)I think a shot like this can work, like if it's used to represent introspection, disorientation, etc. Or if objects in the scene span a wide depth, so the subject still gets grounded in their space, but only locally.But it truly bothers me to see a subject directly on a super-blurry background. It's like they take for granted that a person can be completely independent from their environment. But we're part of our space, not separate from it.

       @Gargron I haven’t worried too much about this but over the last decade or so I have found more and more films to be rather flat and dissatisfying. Overuse of CGI, weak plotting and poor characterisation are almost certainly a large part of that but this kind of crap cinematography is also probably responsible.Don’t even get me started on the tendency for remaking things rather than doing something new or the various overly bloated and increasingly shite “cinematic universes”!

       @Gargron @peachfront plus I'm not convinced that watching an analog feed on a CRT screen from >20 years ago was really a better experience than watching 1080p on our 400 ppi smartphones.I confess that I watched the video on my smartphone and the examples were still convincing.
