@privateger worth by what metric /gen?like its gonna be a modern headset, i will work far better than the quest 1/2s i've been usingidk what the current prices of vives are but last i checked they also still were around that amountso like, getting the new one with warranty and such sounds not that terrible?

@4censord@unfug.social Spec-wise it will be basically the same as a Quest 3. It's not that I dislike it; I just think it's gonna be a very tough sell price/performance-wise when even the most optimistic pricing estimate is twice of the Q3, the pessimistic ones being at 3x, while getting you the in-comparison much more immature ecosystem, software and game availability.I was really hoping for some sort of development past the Q3 too, I suppose. Maybe OLED or something. This is essentially a 2023 headset.

@4censord@unfug.social For example, the Pico 3 had a DisplayPort mode that converted the standalone headset into a fully linked HMD. Something like that would've been incredibly nice to have. If the software turns out to be mostly bullshit free that's already a selling point, but SteamVR is not exactly known for being... all that great.

@4censord@unfug.social I've been on a Pico 4 for years now, I also started with a Quest 1 :thumbsupcat:I find it kind of difficult to justify a 1000$+ sidegrade from a device I paid 429€ for 4 years ago. I suppose we'll see how the Frame actually performs, there's like no info yet :woozy_blahaj:

@4censord@unfug.social I run it wireless with Virtual Desktop, basically exactly how I did with my Quest :niko83C:I have a U6 Pro access point dedicated to itHonestly have no interest in standalone stuff, all my games are on Steam

@aetios@sns.minovsky.space @4censord@unfug.social Dunno how kitted out your Quest 2 is for comfort, I do find the Pico 4 substantially more comfortable than any of the Quests. It also has pancake lenses; the Quest 2 was their last Fresnel headset, so it'll look a lot better. The Quest 3 has similar specs display-wise but has one new generation of processor over the Pico 4. The Pico 4 was released before the Q3. You're probably rather looking at the Pico 4 Ultra nowadays, but that's priced basically the same as a Quest 3 and has the same XR2 Gen 2 SoC.If your main use case is streaming, the Pico 4 has WiFi 7 and can decode AV1 in hardware. The Quest has a better ecosystem. I don't do VR gaming on Linux, so I can't talk about how well that is supported :niko83C:

@privateger @4censord I can stream but I also have a 5gbps cable that has a charging injector. I'll keep an eye out for the pico4. I don't own anything on the meta headset

@privateger @aetios @4censord I play VR with a Q3S on linux, it's pretty good unless you want a desktop environment experience, I was never able to fully use the desktop with wayland but gaming through steam link or ALVR(which let's you use USB link) works pretty well

@privateger tbh i've not heard of pico before, i'm only like casually interested in vr and have only recently been trying to get back into it (after getting a large dampener when oculus died)
