You want to commission an artist for your next project? Here is some important advice. Do not send an AI generated image with your email. It kills all the joy and turns the artist into a prisoner. @hllizi It is your choice :). The other side can reject it, if it is not a good fit. Ideally the prompt does not sound like all the other prompts.

@dalias Yes, next to a written text (the prompt I assume) and additional information. Sadly, the generated image is impossible to get out of your head once you have seen it. I thought it would be better to mention it to avoid rejections. I don't think they send the image on purpose, they believe it helps the process.

@sylvia_ritter I think it's less that it should only be written words, but more that it should come from your own creative process. I didn't know for the longest time what my sona would be other than a cat. Then one day I listened to a song and inspiration struck me so hard that I had to draw it to get it out of my head. Didn't use AI for that, just drew what I could draw.I don't know if that restricted the creativity of the artist that made my refsheet when I gave my drawing to her (together with a short written concept). Maybe it did, but it also gave me what I envisioned for myself.

@flamecat 💚 Yes, this is different and I am sure it didn't restrict the creativity. A drawing from the heart is no comparison to an AI generated image, especially when it is such a personal commission.

@sylvia_ritter @danstowell I was wondering the same as I very simply sketched the outlines of my vision for my first tattoo in InkScape to sent to the artist. She didn't say anything negative about it but I also wondered, even if it were just some lines, whether this was okay.

@sylvia_ritter it's also a massive red flag. Like seriously, I'll be polite about it, but I will absolutely notice if I'm getting AI art with a client and it will absolutely factor into my decisions about whether to take the commission and whether or not I trust the client. All of my artwork comes with a licensing clause that you won't use that art with a lora. My first thought is "oh, are you going to respect my licensing terms? And what are you going to be like to work with?"

@ariarhythmic Yes, so true :), but it is not always simple. Not every artist has the luxury to say no. And what if the commission inquiry is not only AI slop, it is send with a longer written description and you already worked with them years ago.
