       My pet peeve is referring to one's girlfriend as "my girl".This does not extend to "my boy" because I've never heard that used in the same way.

       "My girl" feels like claiming ownership of her."My boy" feels like making a statement of pride in him.It's mostly cultural forces that shape how these grammatically equivalent phrases sound to me.Related, though. Saying "that's my girl" is a direct expression of pride and I like that more.

       @Paradox understandable frustration. As a small positive, "good boy" and "good girl" have exactly the same connotation
