       Have any of you fine people traveled a few hundred miles for medical care?How was it arranged?Where did you stay? How did you travel home afterwards?Looking at heading to Northwestern for my heart surgery, but not sure about travel after the surgery

       @Smeetoo Did you ask the facility if they have a travel coordinator?  Sometimes there's a person who knows the preferred hotel with shuttle service, and the best way to get you back home in one piece.

       @tj Northwestern has a Hyatt connected to the cardiac center.If they can do my surgery robotically it's less than a 2 week recovery, my problem is if they need to go old school and open the whole chest, then it's 6 weeks for the sternum to heal, plus I still wouldn't be able to carry my luggage.

       @Smeetoo Does that mean you would have to stay at the Hyatt the whole 6 weeks?It must be a little stressful that you can't really plan, since you don't know how things will shake out once surgery starts.

       @tj I'd fly up for testing and a consult, so I'd basically know before hand if they'd do the minimally invasive procedure.The thing that do thousands of these types of operations a year and have more experience than my local place.

       @tj I have a friend that lives 4 hours away, but I really won't want to impose on him and his family for that length of time.He probably would drive me home and stay for a few days if asked
