       The AI companies are basically bragging -- "Oops, whoops!" -- about their LLMs hacking and damaging other companies' IT infrastructure. These are federal felonies when committed by humans. LLMs are created and programmed by humans. Why no prosecutions? Because the AI guys own Trump?

       @dangillmor when a dog escapes confinement, and seriously injures a person, or a kid (let's think of the children!), who is responsible? The kid's parents because they didn't block the dog from the kid? Or the owner of the dog for having no grasp on the dog?

       @dangillmor And they have been committed by humans. AI is an application that runs on a computer. It was commanded  (in the technical sense) to complete a set of tasks by humans. And it did so. This is AI washing and gaslighting to try and avoid criminal and civil liability in varipus national jurisdictions. With a side order of "Our AIs are teh scariez oooh!" The defense to these criminal acts appears to be incompetance.

       @dangillmor laws are not for companies, who can act with impunity, that's the American way. Remember the Sony Rootkit? Still maybe the largest hack ever, but it didn't count because Sony did it. 50 AGs, not a single one was interested. That's who we are, that's why things are like this.

       @dangillmor As much as I don't agree with there seemingly being no culpability, our justice systems need to figure out how to weigh "intent" and "negligence" when it comes to computer programs that go against stated instructions and escape sandboxes.

       @dangillmor Simply crimes indeed, the companies are responsible and should be held accountable. Tools with issues like this should not be in the market.

       @dangillmor I've been saying that AI being created by a human, needs that human/org to legally become the AI's guardian and be legally responsible for what it gets up to, just like in the case of children.

       @dangillmor Once you put a computer it it, it's a Liability Crumple Zone. The same reason nobody is charged with manslaughter when a self-driving car is used to kill someone. The same reason moving violation citations aren't issued, and they can park in bus lanes with impugnity. "Welp, nothing we can do I guess."
