@libreoffice Office 2021 users can upgrade to office 2024.But the rest of problems would still apply, like OOXML: "OOXML, despite carrying an ISO number, is not comparable in practice. The standard that was approved and the format that Microsoft Office actually writes have diverged. Independent implementations remain approximations. This is why round-tripping a complex document between suites degrades it, and why the degradation is always the fault of the software that did not write the format in the first place."

@libreoffice I’m so glad I cut the cord.In truth, after 30yrs of using MS Office I would’ve continued using it ad nauseam… if only I hadn’t felt more and more like it was spyware. (Don’t get me started on Win 11. 😱)Very grateful to have LibreOffice as an alternative. You all rock! 👏👏

@libreoffice I was unimpressed with #LibreOffice when it updated itself and broke such that it wouldn't even launch. (I'm trying it out to see whether I can live with cancelling the MS subscription when it comes due in a few months.)To be fair, after a week or two someone suggested a (somewhat techie) workaround (which required use of the command line), and after several more weeks the bug I submitted got fixed (so it now works for me without the workaround).But.Not really the sort of experience a non-techie expects from a word processor. So even if I decide I can do without MS myself I am entirely unconvinced that I can sell it to the rest of the household.

No more security updates, no more fixes, no more assurances.Libreoffice works fine.I dumped ALL Microsoft products some years ago, I have no regrets.My newest computer is now about 14 years old, core I5 K, 8 GB Mem, 500GB SSD. Fast stable and fully up to date with antiX 26. A Debian derived no systemd distribution with clear antifascist statement from its chief developer.

@libreoffice I have used Libre Office Impress for numerous talks. No complaints, and my slides from 10 years ago still look fine ( I just checked ).

@libreoffice AFAIK it is even worse for Mac users. The last non-subscription version of M$ Office they sold is degraded to a viewer as soon as your certificate needs updating (e.g. if you get a new computer). So they are essentially breaking the software you bought from them. Copy protection and DRM have never stopped piracy but always hurt paying customers. It has been a shame since day one!

@bytebro Glad to hear it! OpenOffice development has mostly stopped since 2014, apart from some minor updates, and it has unfixed security issues so is not recommended for production use. Keep us informed how you get on with LibreOffice 😊
