@jfml I feel it. I wrote this one after being confronted also to situation on my trip back from Paris.How some people respond delusionally to any stressful 'global' situation... In this comic, the first guy diminishes the effect, the woman in second solves the problem selfishly with money (the higher class dodging the issue with their resources), and the last dog-man blames a minority (racism).

@davidrevoy I know you're talking about global warming, but one time at my job at a picture frame shop, there was a massive fire on the same block (not our building, but about three storefronts down) and my boss wouldn't let us go home early or even make a plan to evacuate the art.Spent all day telling customers over the phone not to come down because the road out front was completely blocked off with fire trucks.

@pencilears Oh no. Yes, the allegory is about Global Warming/Climate Change, but it is also broad enough for many topics. The real main topic is about the delusional response of people refusing to see the emergency, so your experience totally matches that.

@hardy Thank you for reading. I probably experienced an overwhelming emotional response over the last day. The smoke from a forest fire 300 km away filled my valley, one of my cats had to go to the vet because he has a weak heart and the heatwave almost killed him (he's fine now, this is one: https://www.davidrevoy.com/article1075/diy-digital-stethoscope-for-cats). On the train back from Paris, an old man said, "It was like that in 1976 too". I just took my laptop and furiously typed out this story...

@davidrevoy We know all about the smoke in Australia! It gives me serious flashbacks to new years day in 2020, when SE Australia was an inferno, and hundreds were trapped in the coastal town of Marlo. (Fortunately the main front missed the township proper)The only good that came out was a lot of foxhole conversions.

@davidrevoy Imagine: some time later Pepper meets a group of elves who are investigating the city fire.Elves are happy that there is somebody who listens to them and tell, that they knew how and why would the fire happen years before. When Pepper asks about what is going to happen in future, elves tell, that in 50 years all the planet will be a desert, in 100 years it will be on fire, and in 300 years it will look like Venus.Then Pepper asks, how to prevent all of that, and elves tell, that usage of fire should be prohibited, as well as wood, paper (as fuel for fire) and glass lenses (to prevent them from focusing sunlight and causing fire), and 2 out of 3 moons should be moved and fixed in one point to block the Sun.Then Pepper asks: "Is the future going to be so harsh and are there easier way to prevent that?" — and elves tell, that those were their worst predictions, most likely the planet would become warmer but not to the point of worldwide desert, and to prevent that it is enough to replace all fire lamps with magical cold sources of light.But they also say that nobody is going to listen to them if they will tell the most likely instead of worst possible predictions and measures.This is a parody on climate change activists, who tell that Earth is going to turn into hell due to global warming instead of most likely projections, and thus involuntarily discredit the movement to stop climate change.
