       @bazkie i mean, i did lots of tracks over the years by doing 2-3 base patterns and some transitions (played manually) and just mixed everything by hand (even live)you can play the instruments live aswell but i tend to pre-sequence those aswell and just trigger individual sub-tracks inside a track in renoise a neat consequence of that technique is that every single take of that track will be totally unique

       @toffo I don't think I have the skills to pull such a thing off live :D but so like, do I understand that instead of sequencing a song in the sequencer, you just loop 1 pattern over and over, and have the different musical parts in the subtracks of a group?

       @bazkie yep (or multiple patterns/select needed by pressing a pattern play button in the sequencer area, can be bound to midi cc aswell) and also tinker with the mixer/effects/note placements with follow mode off/etc... literally think of it as a live canvas - kinda similar to how you work with actual hardware synths in pattern modegets even more insane when coupled with phrases and/or midinous (thats an external algorithmic generative midi sequencer) - you can do some pretty fascinating stuff

       @bazkie classic sequencing is still good :pbut i still wish renoise had a matrix sequencer (optionally) aswell as that can save a LOT of time.. but hey, pt2/ft2 style one is good enough

       @bazkie ehmmm, have u ever used deflemask/lsdj/furnace?if not - those use a matrix sequencer.in that sequencing paradigm every single channel has its own separate pattern so you can reuse single channel's pattern while doing a new pattern for the melody, for example. that doesnt require you to duplicate the full pattern in order to change a small thing in it - and sadly its mostly used in chiptune trackers while the rest of em stick to old pt2 style paradigm where every pattern combiles all

       @toffo oh wow that's pretty neat. no I've never used any of those :) it does seem a bit hard to get a quick grasp of the song structure this way, but I guess one could combine a matrix sequencer with the renoise like "track thumbnails" and some coloring 🤔

       @krasn0glaz not live, but yes - those are static (but with renoise I THINK it wouldve been possible to do it in realtime)
