@ariadne the principle we use is "you want us to use the slop bot but you also want us to review everything that comes out of it, but it's unreviewable garbage not worth my attention, so we'll just burn the tokens and say we used AI but we reviewed all the code and it ended up looking like it would have if we wrote it from scratch"

@ariadne I don’t see any difference from typically-shitty MBA thinking: “every engineer should reliably deliver X points in Y time”. management wants slop according to management’s vision at a sloppy pace.the difference is that engineers can actually deliver that at low cost (to the engineer, aside from solidarity and professional standards) now

@ariadne I once asked the company-supplied AI how to get round some of the corporate security theatre.I was expecting it to simply report me to security.Instead it told me how to get round the security, and even included some code. Which was wrong, of course, being AI generated code, but it pointed me in a direction which I eventually made to work.

@ariadne Something my employer recognised early on : you appear to have no control when presenting a prompt over how many tokens the tool may end up burning in its efforts.This epiphany came after he asked it to do something, it tried to do far far more than asked, and, after a few hours, came back and said it had run out of tokens. No deliverable for you!
