       @anon_opin An e-bike is neither fast enough nor massive enough to cause the kind of damage a motorcycle or car can do. It's just a bike that's easier to ride uphill.

       @Gargron @anon_opin You can trivially buy a 50kg e-bike that goes to 45km/h without pedalling. Add a 100kg rider, and that’s well enough kinetic energy to kill a dog, child, or even an adult.The e-bike label is too wide.

       @Gargron @anon_opin that’s strikes me as a misleading comparison. A bike can still cause significant harm so why does it matter that it’s less harm than a car or motorcycle? There was a case in London a few years ago where a cyclist (IIRC a non e-bike) hit and killed a pedestrian. The cyclist went to prison.

       @Gargron @anon_opin E-bikes (and e-scooters) are a danger to pedestrians when operated on sidewalks, which they do around here even with a bike lane.I'm in a solid, heavy power chair and I wouldn't want to be hit by one going high speed. Even if not knocked out of my chair, I could suffer head and/or neck injuries, broken bones and soft tissue trauma. If not permits and licenses, then tickets with fines need to be issued.
