@dalias @ariadne You've never met someone who genuinely believes there are too many people and does not want anyone to be eliminated? And who wants to achieve diminution of reproduction by education, healthcare (access to contraception), and social nets so people don't have to rely on their children in their old age? You've never met someone who thinks both that human life is precious and needs to be helped and that easing the burden on natural resources wouldn't be a bad idea, precisely to avoid violent deaths, suffering, and famines down the road when climate change makes some of the world uninhabitable and most of it unarable?I get the feeling you've been so busy fighting against outright fascists that you've been thoroughly blackpilled and cannot even imagine that other people might have humanist views if they're different from yours. This is a pretty bad mental place to be, if I'm being honest.

If you're taking a snapshot of Earth today, yes, there are still enough resources to feed and accommodate everyone, and if we beheaded all the billionaires and allocated resources equitably, we would be fine, and could accommodate up to 10B humans, more or less.But climate change is changing that, and in 50 years this won't be the case anymore. There are already water problems we didn't have before in some parts of the world. And we will not be able to effect social change worldwide before resources diminish drastically. Both things are true: we need to do away with oligarchs and we need to stop global population growth, else there will be mass starvation. Eating the rich is necessary, but it's not sufficient. Believe me, I wish it were.

@dalias @ariadne That is fair. But I kinda view the perspective of wars over water, of mass migrations (which people do and will react to, unfortunately, by xenophobia and fascism), of famines, as a bigger problem. I'm okay with saying that these are consequences of the lack of reproductive freedom/social safety nets/etc. and obviously consequences of unbridled capitalism.

To me it was always about the mathematical model when the population saturates their environment and stops increasing. https://www.nature.com/scitable/knowledge/library/how-populations-grow-the-exponential-and-logistic-13240157/ Over-burdened food supply chains, collapsing insect populations, global warming, and a resurgence of actual shit fascists all seem like great reasons to keep the proverbial dick in the pants.
