       I use a VPN and Backblaze doesn't want my business. Captchas that never end. There are plenty of other cloud storage companies.

       @dangillmor With my VPN, I'm finding this endless-captcha-loop happening more and more often on more and more sites as time goes on. Practicing internet hygiene is getting more impractical as time goes on.

       @dangillmor TBH I spoke to them once at a conf and they somehow got my contact details and were pretty aggressive with contacts/meeting requests. Pretty sure I had to block them in the end, was a few years back.

       Backblaze is explicitly anti-VPN. It's "support" page insists that I disable it -- and any other network security -- to use the service.No, thanks.

       @dangillmor I often get this with several companies since I tunnel all my home traffic through a VPN. It is impossible for me to use Google without getting a never-ending stream of captchas.Funnily enough, I get a constant stream from ppl along the lines of "well, aktchually, VPNs don't make your browsing any safer" and "So instead of handing your data to the ISP you give it to the VPN company, what's the difference?"Well, I live in a country where the law forces ISPs to hand over users' metadata to the Government. The VPN I use is hosted overseas. I'm sure they can get the data if they try hard, but I'm not about to bend over and hand it over without making them work for it.

Just in case I loose the phone before I get home to save to my HDD

       @dangillmor I don't use a VPN as much any more. I'm OK with Backblaze requiring my real ISP address. It's sites that require that I turn off ad blocking that are dead to me.Did BackBlaze's S3 service also fail with VPNs? I'd have a real problem with that. storj is cheaper and doesn't care. But you have to roll your own backups with something like arq which works great.Also backblaze's tech support is very limited. You have to be a certain type of customer (e.g. low tech) in contrast to high-knowledge "Why won't your service let me do this?". They just refund the high-knowledge customers and send them on their way. It means less support costs but shows a certain send of technical entitlement. "You don't like it? OK. There's the door."
