       I honestly wonder if something like this happened. We don't understand the Pyramids. There are a lot of theories about a comet strike causing the cataclysm at the end of the Younger Dryas.Göbekli Tepe seems to have drawings of a sky serpent and such legends appear in other cultures  like the god Quetzalcoatl. What if a previous civilization used lost technology to move a comet into orbit to mine it? The Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson has a section about a rocket with the most powerful AI navigation system known to man went to capture an asteroid and guided it slowly back to be used as the anchor for a space elevator.What if another civilization had that idea, and the technology, and it was the downfall of the planet? .. all its history lost below epic floods.
