       @gutenberg_org I've actually come to appreciate reading a lot more now that every other device is clamoring for my attention at all times.I'm not picky about the medium--paper, Kobo, or an app on my phone are all fine--it's the process that's important; it's the act of interacting with media that I can and must consume at my own pace that gives my overloaded senses a respite.I can barely force myself to sit through a show anymore though... I feel like a foie gras goose.

       @gutenberg_org I’ve observed that people who need to read and want to read are very different from the way many people prefer to get knowledge and pleasure. Why read a book or article if someone can just get a summary or bullet point list of the main information? People who are literate in a different language often can hear and understand the gist of information provided orally. People who stumble over unfamiliar words that are written can get the idea easily when heard. I enjoy controlling when and how I read for pleasure. I’ve got the type of time allowed  to pick up a book, read a little and come back later. I can read myself to sleep. I can be so happy with what I’m reading I just speed through it, reading for hours. I like the physical presentation and notice the paper quality, tactile feel, cover art, seeing the shape of the written word. But for others, they enjoy hearing an audible book, especially while doing other routine tasks or exercise. It’s convenient to not even have a physical copy of the book. And. Hey, they’ve already got their phone and ear buds with them. I’ll read a book again and maybe several times over the years. I make space happily to collect my own “library”. Others, not so much. Lifelong reader and teacher, I see more people than not appreciate books in far different forms and with features I’m not even interested in. Sigh.
