my bose qc gen1 earbud's case recently stopped working (3 flashing leds). looks like it's totally unrepairable and replacement case costs like 80 eur/$99. are there any earbuds with repairable or generic charging cases, or other recommendations? also considering cabled usb-c earbuds if there's such a thing

@mntmn ah, sorry to hear that. what are your mandatory requirements? i've started to, sadly, see usb-C earbuds as "this will eventually break and need replacement" myself. i wouldn't even know how to fix.might have recommendations. ANC needed/wanted? price range? what are you working with in terms of needs and resources? (my recs would be BT usb-c earbuds with ANC, idk whether that works for you)

@mntmn I may be able to do you one better, and you're not having much of a loss if it's not for you. Try "soundcore by Anker Liberty 4 NC".They are BT, usb-C, have ANC (and the ANC is so good, I HAVE to remove a bud if someone talks to me - not like airpods where i CAN still hear what's being said), the charge holds ridiculously long, the sound quality is more than acceptable for the price.And for price, they currently go for less than 60 bucks. you have nothing to lose with those.

@mntmn pineBuds are decent, I don't know much about their repairablility but their stuff is usually repairable.Also check out moondrop, and tanchjim iem's, very good audio quality, replaceable type C cable. No ANC but the passive isolation is better than my various anc buds (I've been using them while using an angle grinder and vacuum at the same time).Truthear are good as well, they don't come with a type C cable afaik but you can buy one separately, same goes for a bluetooth "band" style cable.

@mntmn There’s this (danish?) company called Repeat; their focus is on repairability.I know two people who had Repeat headphones, afaik they were happy with theirs :)

@mntmn If you’re considering cabled, these earbuds are cheap and a cult favourite. I’ve been using them for a few months with a lightning adapter and they work great. I imagine a usb-c adapter would be similar. https://www.linsoul.com/products/7hz-x-crinacle-zero-2

@mntmn I use aux cabled ones with a USB-C adapter that's just permanently attacked. Feels just like a cord that's slightly longer. If you get IEMs with 2-pin or MMCX connectors, you can also just get a headphones cable that's directly USB-C.

@mntmn usb-c dac (apple one is pretty decent) + stereo minijack in-ear monitors that can detach. that way you can buy a new cord, buy a new dac if/when those die but your earbuds can live on

@mntmn I almost got some Fairbuds - they are modular and repairable. But I ended up with Audiotechnica ATH50xBT2 headphones because they can work with either wired or bluetooth.
