@ariadne hmmmmmm I was about to say "stable sounds old" but apparently 7.1.x is stable..maybe it's just straight up the lack of hack: efi/libstub: mitigate t14s exit_boot_services() failure lol, don't run fully stock kernels on that particular laptop

@ariadne Why not Intel, if you don't mind me asking? I was stuck between Intel and AMD recently but since it's a laptop I went with Intel since it has better power efficiency overall.

@ariadne I did get a laptop early last year that I wanted to have not only AMD cpu but also AMD graphics. Wanted portability, so 14". Got this Acer Swift Go 14. Writing from it right now, Fedora on it, has been doing really well, can recommend. @lvmbdv_was_taken @keithzg but ariadne, the Pentium F00F bugah yes, that bug, I remember it well from my childhoodbut here's the thing, back then we didn't have systemverilog yet, and although we did have verilog, they were still doing a lot more shit by hand, so I give them a pass for itthat and, yes it's a fuckup, but it was easily mitigated in software with basically no performance hit

@dysfun @pndc @lvmbdv_was_taken @keithzg yes, that is the problem.the logistical problems of importing loongson IP into the US are largely irrelevant, you just wash the IP by just happening to buy directly from the fabs who just happen to have already produced CPUs made from the same IP. and then you pay loongson their share of the sales of the whitelabeled version, and you can say "DESIGNED IN USA!" wooo!!!! made in china, but designed in USA because it is licensed IP, etc bla bla you get the idea. but it is risky.
