@fdroidorg leverage against Google goes out the door when everyone openly support what Apple does under the same disguise. This is a fight that was lost when everyone jumped head first when walled garden for phones was accepted as the best solution for the industry now almost 20 years ago. Kind of saying it is bad because Google also wants to do it now while allowing Apple to do the same is basically hypocrisy even though Google are hypocrites themselves for marketing it as as advantage before.

@fdroidorg I feel like there should be some mention of "iceblock" in here to demonstrate how dangerous it is for a company to control what apps you're allowed to have, who is also actively colluding with a tyrannical government to stifle free speech.

@fdroidorgto all the "i use graphene/sailfish/ubuntu touch/two cans on a string" folks: the point isn't that there is an escape for savvy individuals, but the ridiculous restrictions placed onto general population. Nobody is free until everyone is.

@fdroidorg How long are we going to pretend google cares what their userbase thinks?The effort we spend in petitioning, lobbying, and protesting is wasted when the company isn't even subject to the most basic anti-trust law enforcement. If google is too big for even the largest bureaucratic machines to topple, why do we continue to throw our resources into the void, instead of using them to help create alternatives or fund advertising for FOSS?

@fdroidorg so i don't mean to be 'that person' but, as far as I can tell this doesn't affect fdroid as much as I initially thought.for one, this shouldn't apply to FOSS ROMs like Lineage/Graphene/etc.It's a mechanism purely employed by the Play store, and only on 'Google Certified' ROMs, and even on there you can just enable 'unverified installs' indefinitely, it just takes 24h to enable, and warns you with every install, which is annoying, but not impossible.unless I missed something?

@anthropy The issue is that 4 billion people will be disuaded to install F-Droid right away. You run Google-free? Great. You're the 0.000001 percenter. The rest? It appears that 60% of users get scared and can't press 6 buttons on screen to install a game, ask Epic. Now, imagine it does not take 6 seconds to install F-Droid, but 24h, how exactly will you guide your friend to install a cool app from #FDroid when Google asks them if they are being coerced? Will you be with them tomorrow too?
